Going to wikipedia’s page: List of chaotic maps, one can find some really neat mathematical transformations. Arnold’s cat map seems like it would have some neat practical uses.

Chaos: Making a New Science – James Gleick

When I first became interested in Chaos Theory I decided to read James Gleick’s Chaos: Making a New Science.  The book provides an adequate introduction into the science of chaos without too many technical details.
